1928
Nineteen year old Elmer J. Scherrer forms Scherrer Construction Company. With a workforce of three, him being the youngest, Scherrer's first projects consisted mostly of farm buildings. In 1929 and 1930, people began moving out from Chicago and Milwaukee and small sub-divisions began to spring up. By now Elmer’s brother Vin had joined the firm and the work force had grown to a crew of 12 to 15. In 1939 the Company had its first shop, attached to the back of Elmer’s new house he built in New Munster, Wisconsin.

1955
Scherrer Construction incorporates. The company is specializing in custom-built homes. (Years later, Owners selling their homes will advertise them as "Scherrer built".) By this time two of Elmer’s sons, Elmer H. and Norm have joined him in the business.

1968
As the firm realizes it’s 40th Anniversary, Elmer H. Scherrer is now President. The firm is now building educational, commercial, industrial and religious structures in addition to its residential and multi-family work. Vin Scherrer’s sons, Jim and Jerry, are now also working for the firm as carpenters.

1984
High profile local projects have now included a new Police Facility for the City of Burlington delivered through a Construction Management contract and a massive Resort Renovation on Browns Lake in Burlington. The Company has purchased it’s first computer and has developed and presented Construction Buyer Information (CoBI) programs for the public. Elmer H. Scherrer’s sons, Peter, Jesse and Bil have now joined the family firm. James V. Scherrer is elected the third President of Scherrer Construction.

1997
Consistent with Company Long Range Planning, Scherrer Construction has positioned itself as the "Contractor of Choice" for larger and more complex projects. Educational, Healthcare, Commercial and Industrial work make up most of the Company’s portfolio. A review of the Company’s projects shows that Scherrer Construction is pre-selected as general contractor on over 85% of their work. James V. Scherrer’s son, Jim E. is now with the firm as a project manager.
