On August 25, 2012, the City of Lake Geneva held a ribbon-cutting celebration, complete with speeches, kudos, and a narrated tour of every feature of the unique skate park at Dunn Field. The speeches were followed by demonstrations of the features (by a select few) until, finally, the patrons were released onto the facility en masse.

Brent Warren, project manager from Scherrer Construction, was given an opportunity to thank the subcontractors (with special mention to Scherrer’s own concrete crew) who worked together to complete the skate park and to thank the City of Lake Geneva for their partnership. Looking forward, Warren remarked, “This project has generated a lot of buzz with other municipalities considering similar action facilities and we are definitely being looked at as the area construction expert.”

The skate park effectively uses 15,000 SF with careful consideration to space and sight lines between features. Both vertical ramp and street skating elements were integrated seamlessly into the design and it also features the largest bowl (an empty in-ground swimming pool to Baby Boomer types) in the State of Wisconsin. Four different concrete colors were used.

While many us may never know what it’s like to catch some air or grind or whatever, it is clear to all age groups that this facility is state of the art and relevant to the people who use it. Enjoy Lake Geneva!
