POSITION SCOPE

Our commitment to safety is paramount, and we prioritize the well-being of our employees and subcontractors on every job site. The Scherrer Safety Director is responsible for administering safety programs and directing safety protocols on the jobsite to ensure safety compliance by the project team, employees, and subcontractors. Additionally, the Safety Manager will educate teams on safety best practices, keep current on OSHA regulations and research new safety technologies and equipment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct regular safety inspections of assigned projects and publish reports for internal improvement and compliance.

  • Educate and train associates on health and safety related issues.

  • Work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Subcontractors to ensure compliance with all safety policies.

  • Attend preconstruction meetings and other project meetings as required.

  • Conduct formal investigations in work related incidents to determine cause and corrective actions.

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization and on jobsites through continued communication, safety meetings, and shared documentation.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Maintain a current knowledge base of safety and OSHA regulations.

  • Provide safety training and orientation to employees, project teams, subcontractors, and customers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs and visit jobsites safely.

  • Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe work practices.

  • Ensure project teams have complete safety equipment, training, and resources.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of job sites, identify potential hazards, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to incorporate safety considerations into project plans and designs.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures.

  • Keep current with industry trends, changes in regulations, and best practices in construction safety, and ensure their integration into our safety programs.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a safety manager or similar role in the commercial construction industry, with a strong track record of successfully implementing safety programs.

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Occupational Safety or related field preferred.

  • Practical knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Excellent knowledge of construction practices, equipment, processes, and the ability to identify potential hazards.

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

  • Developed management, leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to direct project teams, lead safety meetings, and deliver engaging safety training sessions to communicate safety requirements.

  • Procore experience preferred.

  • Proficient in using safety management software, incident tracking systems, Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel.

  • Must be a committed team player.
