Scherrer completes work on Cultures Supporting Life (CSL)’s first U.S. manufacturing facility

We recently wrapped up construction of the new Cultures Supporting Life (CSL) USA Inc. facility in Franksville, Wisconsin. This is the probiotic company’s first manufacturing facility in the U.S.

The 80,000-square-foot facility will support the growing food, beverage, health and nutrition markets. The manufacturing facility includes several offices, a lab and freezers that cool to negative 58°F. There are also clean room process spaces to support the research, development, manufacturing and distribution of probiotic strains intended for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and agro-livestock industries.

“The construction process for this facility was unique because the owner wanted the flexibility to one day be United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-certified. The details of construction reflect the efforts made to adhere to those requirements,” explained Steven Richard, project manager at Scherrer Construction. “We built clean rooms with temperature and moisture controls in order to meet the rigorous hygiene standards needed by our clients.”

Much of the process equipment was custom made and tailored to CSL’s production needs.

We are so proud to have been a part of this exciting project for the company and for the Racine County community!

A ribbon cutting and open house took place on June 23 with the CSL USA team, local and state officials, Excel Engineering (architect) and Scherrer Construction (general contractor) to celebrate the completion of the facility.
